In a recent study done by Jack L. Hayes International of the country’s 23 largest retail companies, over 70 thousand employees were apprehended for theft in 2012, recovering more than $50 million in total over all cases These numbers were markedly higher than years past, indicating a growing trend that will lead not only to sustained losses in profits from retailers, but also ever growing prices for consumers.
While customers still make up the majority of the culprits in retail theft, amassing over $138 million in stolen products, the study also found that, on average, a dishonest employee will steal 5.5 times the amount of goods an actual shoplifter would. In addition to changes in pre-employment screening processes and employee supervision, businesses are looking for economical solutions to discourage these activities and reduce damage to their bottom lines.
One such solution for preventing the theft of expensive and high profile items is the use of security cage partitions. They provide security while still allowing for visibility and air circulation of the contents placed inside. Many workplaces also implement some form of wire security to prevent unauthorized access to certain areas. The use of wire security rooms, along with perimeter machine guarding, is one of the more efficient forms of secure storage and safety available to businesses.
Types of Wire Security Rooms
Wire security rooms come in various forms to suit specific needs. Before rushing towards making a purchase, it’s important to know what needs each product is intended to meet.
Wire mesh rooms are available in 2-sided, 3-sided, and 4-sided models to properly suit any situation. Machined in eight gauge steel welded wire with more than 500 welds per panel, this product is engineered for resilience. This type of room is also easy to relocate and setup if necessary. Equipment Cage is different from the room sets as they are not sold in 2, 3, or 4-sided models. This makes them ideal for securing items along one side of a room.
Warehouse Partitions are unique in the fact that they are designed to be an entire room within an industrial facility, complete with panels and even ceilings if necessary. They can be customized to any size and can include double or keyed-alike cylinders, push-button locks, panic bars, spring hinges, service windows, card reader locks, ceiling panels and more. Wire machine guards are a form of perimeter machine guarding that is specifically designed to ensure safety in workplaces that use machinery, such as factories or warehouses.
Wire partitions are available as doors, fencing, posts, and can be combined to create a custom security room. An adjustable barrier system works in a very similar fashion to mesh partitions, but they’re primarily designed to block off machinery or unauthorized areas.
Each of these products come with a highly customizable set of options that can suit the needs of any warehouse, stock room, factory or retail store interested in securing their goods or promoting worker safety.
